ABOUT/CONTACT

LANDED is led by artist/researcher John Angus, based in Lancaster in north west England. It is an exploration of land ownership and its history, and the creation of related artworks.

This website includes both work which I commissioned by other artists, and work which I have done independently.

I started LANDED when running a small visual art company called STOREY G2.  This was developed from STOREY GALLERY, which I had co-founded as one of a group of artists, and which presented a programme of contemporary art for over 20 years. (There are photos of many of the exhibitions etc here). When austerity led to national arts funding cuts, and the Gallery’s landlord changed in 2013, the gallery operation was no longer financially sustainable. As director, I then changed the focus of the company towards art projects investigating aspects of the local area, and changed its name to StoreyG2.

The first project “Landed (Freeman’s Wood)”, running from 2014 to 2016, concerned a plot of land on the edge of the city of Lancaster. The current project “Landed (Cockersand to Bowland)“started in 2018, was initially called “Landed (Cadastral Maps)”. It is exploring the history of landownership of an area of north Lancashire, as an illustrative example of landownership history in England.

By the end of 2021 StoreyG2 was no longer delivering charitable activities, so it was time to terminate its status as a registered charity and limited company.

Since then I have continued this study of landownership independently, working on “Landed (Cockersand to Bowland)” .
